Early the next morning, the chief priests and Pharisees called on Pilate. “Sir,” they explained, “we remember that this Man, this imposter, claimed that He would rise after three days. We need you to secure the tomb. Otherwise His disciples might come and steal the body just so they can perpetuate the myth. If that happened, the last deception would be worse than the first.”

“All right then, go,” Pilate replied. “Take what you need to make it as secure as you can.”

So they went and sealed up the tomb and posted guards.
